Substance use disorder (SUD) is a formidable challenge for many Ohioans, and the COVID-19 pandemic only served to intensify the prevalence of SUD throughout the state. People with SUD might be addicted to alcohol, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, opioids, benzodiazepines, or other habit-forming substances. It’s not uncommon for some people with SUD to be addicted to multiple substances, and co-occurring mental health conditions can add to the complexity.
The good news? Northeast Ohio has a drug and alcohol rehab facility staffed by caring experts who understand the intricacies of SUD. If you are finding it challenging to make it through each day without using substances in unhealthy ways, we want to help you get things back on track. Ray Recovery, a facility located in nearby Hudson, Ohio, proudly serves clients in the area looking for a Northfield drug rehab center.
Wondering if you’re a good fit for our programs? Want to get started on the intake process? Give us a call at 888-598-6299 to learn more and get started.
What We Treat at Our Northfield Drug Rehab Center
Our Northfield-area drug rehab center provides treatment for a wide variety of addictions. In many cases, people experiencing SUD also have co-existing mental health conditions; these conditions may precede their SUD. Other times, individuals with SUD develop a mental health condition after substance misuse.
Treating SUD without addressing co-existing mental health conditions means incomplete and, often, unsuccessful addiction care. Dual-diagnosis treatment aims to address all relevant pieces of an individual’s SUD. Holistic care, which involves aligning a client’s mind and body through complementary and alternative therapeutic interventions, is also important.
Alcohol Addiction
Alcohol is one of the most misused substances; more than one-third of Americans under the legal drinking age have tried alcohol, and around 10 percent of those 12 years of age or older have experienced alcohol use disorder at some point within the past year.
You might be living with alcohol use disorder if you have:
- Unsuccessfully tried cutting back on your drinking
- Found that your alcohol use limited your ability to manage your responsibilities
- Experienced withdrawal symptoms (anxiety, shakiness, nausea, or depression, to name a few)
- Used alcohol to manage feelings and emotions
Our team has experience treating alcohol use disorder in countless clients. We’d be more than happy to come up with a personalized treatment plan so you can turn the page on your addiction.
Benzodiazepine Addiction
Benzodiazepines, or benzos, are prescribed rather frequently for people experiencing acute anxiety and panic attack symptoms. They are meant for short-term use, but plenty of individuals inadvertently find themselves tolerated or addicted to these medications. Benzos increase the binding of GABA receptors in the central nervous system and slow certain brain activities, which brings a calming feeling.
Before long, those taking benzos find they have a difficult time existing without the drug. They might try to quit, but experience rebound anxiety, loss of appetite, nausea, insomnia, and other unpleasant symptoms. Tolerance can often turn into addiction. Benzos addiction requires a thoughtful and cautious treatment plan for clients to wean off the substance.
Fentanyl Addiction
When you need medication for extremely severe pain, fentanyl may be prescribed. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that’s dozens of times stronger than morphine. Because it’s cheap to make and produces similar side effects, fentanyl is often included in cocaine, heroin, and other illicit drugs.
Fentanyl’s potency makes it one of the most abused substances—and the most lethal. In the past several years, more than 70 percent of drug overdose deaths involved fentanyl. In late 2023, the total number of fentanyl overdose deaths exceeded 112,000 for a 12-month period. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to get the best fentanyl addiction treatment available. Ray Recovery can prescribe medications like Vivitrol to reduce cravings and provide talk therapy to address the root causes of a client’s SUD.
Heroin Addiction
Some people are surprised to learn that heroin is in the same class of drugs as opioids. In fact, heroin usually consists of more naturally occurring substances than fentanyl, as it’s partly made from the poppy plant. It binds to the same receptors as fentanyl and other opioids. Many people who become addicted to opioids after a severe injury or major surgery turn to heroin when they have exhausted their efforts to obtain prescription opioids.
Many clients battling SUD with heroin addiction can benefit from Vivitrol. Ray Recovery holds a monthly on-site Vivitrol clinic to aid clients who need medication-assisted treatment. We also employ many types of talk therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), trauma therapy, and holistic therapy.
Methamphetamine Addiction
Opioids are highly addictive because they produce feelings of euphoria, and meth works similarly. However, there are some key differences:
- Meth primarily binds to dopamine receptors, while opioids bind to other receptors in the central nervous system
- Methamphetamine is a stimulant; users are energized and alert and oftentimes display erratic behavior. Opioid users often appear relaxed to the point of sluggishness.
- Meth users are more likely to develop chronic medical conditions and experience heart attack or stroke.
- While overdosing on meth is less likely than overdosing on opioids, this can lead meth users to drastically increase their dosages over time. Meth addiction can take hold relatively quickly.
A personalized treatment plan for meth addiction is crucial for effective care and sustained sobriety. We’re proud to offer individual therapy, group therapy for addiction treatment, family therapy, and other therapeutic interventions to ensure you have the best chance of success.
