Dan Smith is an independently licensed social worker and chemical dependency counselor with more than 13 years of experience in behavioral health. As Vice President of Operations at Ray Recovery, he is passionate about helping individuals overcome addiction and mental health challenges while empowering them to build meaningful, purpose-driven lives.
Dan’s passion for recovery is deeply personal. Having struggled with substance use from early adolescence until the age of 24, he understands firsthand the challenges of addiction and the hope that lasting recovery can provide. Now with over 15 years of sobriety, he considers his recovery journey one of his greatest strengths, using his lived experience alongside his clinical expertise to inspire, encourage, and walk alongside those seeking lasting change.
Dan earned his bachelor’s degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and his Master of Social Work from Campbellsville University before completing his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at The University of Akron. His career began as a residential technician, where he developed a passion for serving individuals in recovery. Through dedication, leadership, and a commitment to excellence, he advanced into executive leadership while remaining committed to connecting personally with the clients and families Ray Recovery serves.
Outside of work, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children, James and Mackenzie. He also enjoys traveling, staying active in the gym, and investing in meaningful relationships with family and friends. His Christian faith and recovery journey continue to shape his leadership, his purpose, and his commitment to helping others discover hope, healing, and lasting freedom.
